Vitamin C is an antioxidant that fights sun damage and damage caused by other environmental pollutants. It can also help smooth fine lines and lighten dark. Retinol also can lighten brown spots and improve fine lines over time.

Vitamin C and sunscreens do work well together, however, and both should be applied in the Alpha and beta Hydroxy acids and Retinol should not be used together, because doing so can cause excessive dryness, redness and skin irritation.

Alpha and beta hydroxy acids are used to exfoliate the top layer of the skin to make irregularities and dark spots look better, and Retinols are used to treat acne, dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Benzoyl peroxide and Retinol should not be used together because they cancel each other out. Benzoyl peroxide and vitamin C also counteract each other and should not be used at the same time.

Experts said you only need to wait a few minutes between using the two, however. Alpha and beta hydroxy acids and vitamin C can technically be used together, but the combination may be more irritating for the skin.

One thing experts agree on is that everyone should use sunscreen every day. They recommend applying a moisturizer then a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
